RAIDS is a form of psychological triage to be applied in the early stages of a traumatic reaction during and following involvement in a critical incident.
RAIDS is based on established research that reveal the predictors of posttraumatic stress disorder (PTSD) and applied following the HSE model of risk assessment, tailored for mental health risks.
It is designed as a brief 1:1 interview between a trained peer and a first responder exposed to a situation that undoes their ability to work efficiently and, subsequently, threatens their well-being and mental health.
RAIDS is also designed to be amenable to all employees in the way that physical first-aid can be learned and allow all responders, eventually, to take responsibility for their colleagues.
RAIDS represents the first component of the CrISIS system and a number of responder agencies are now benefitting from this brief and dynamic psychological risk-assessment system.
